Sadly, we're now entering the part of the Yellowstone season where more of the news is made in courtroom than actually within Park boundaries. Next up on the docket: an appeal of a decision to raise snowmobile daily limits. Today a a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals in Denver is scheduled to hear arguments over U.S. District Judge Clarence Brimmer's decision lat year to raise the daily limit for snowmobiles in the Park to 720. We're not even sure Brimmer's original decision is still valid: it was since usurped by a Washington, D.C. court decision, and earlier this month Brimmer himself refused to hear arguments on the decision's validity. Besides, since the original decision the National Park Service came down with a new temporary winter-use plan that limits daily use to 318 sleds. That number was rarely reached in the 2008-2009 winter season.
