Maybe the wolves in Yellowstone National Park are a lot smarter than we think: at a time when the court system is determining the fate of grey wolves in the greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the remaining wolves in Yellowstone are laying low.
Rangers in the Park tell us there are relatively few sightings of wolves in Yellowstone so far this spring and summer. With the demise of the Druid Pack, another pack has probably moved into that pack’s territory -- but sightings of wolves this spring and summer have been extremely rare. If you’re looking, rangers recommend heading to the Lamar Valley -- specifically, the area around Druid Peak -- and the Hayden Valley. That’s only logical: the wolves are hanging out where the elk and bison are centered these days. Still, wolf sightings have been rarer than in previous years, so prepared to stake out a location and wait them out.
