Here's the latest on the Beach Fire from the field: the fire's growth has slowed, it's partially contained, and it should stop moving when it hits the burned-out areas created last summer by the Arnica Fire. Firefighters were back out this morning combating the blaze: a fire line on the west side of the fire dampened its growth westward, while crews were digging fire lines on the south and west portions of the fire to force the fire onto flat areas already cleared by last year's Arnica Fire. The goal: to keep the fire close to its current footprint so it will burn itself out. With some level of containment already achieved and the fire moving into Arnica Fire territory, chances are good it will start shrinking in the next few days.Currently the fire is not impacting any tourism services or road access.
It's doubtful the weather will be helpful today. Today's forecast calls for much of the same: lots of wind and low humidity (between 17 and 23 percent) until the late afternoon, with the usual chance of rain. The earliest forecast for any decent amount of precipitation is Wednesday evening. Top photo courtesy of the National Park Service.
