A bear tore into the Soda Butte Campground near Cooke City, off the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone National Park, killing one and injuries two others early this morning.

The Soda Butte Campground is located about five miles outside the Northeast Entrance, in the Gallatin National Forest. It's frequently used as an overflow camping area for those who cannot procure a campground in the Park, as well as a destination for those seeking a quieter camping experience.

UPDATE: Mother bear, cub trapped at Soda Butte Campground; officials suspect she's the culprit. 

The grizzly entered the campground around 4 a.m. and started the attack. A man was killed, while a woman suffered bite lacerations on her arms and a man was bitten on his calf. He was taken to the Cody hospital.

"We don't know if it was one bear, two bears, a black bear or grizzly bear," Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokesman Ron Aasheim told AP. "Obviously, the bear's gone now. Will it come back tonight? That's the question."

The campground was cleared around 6 a.m. The search for the bear will continue; the campground is closed, as well as other campgrounds in the area.

This is the second time in two years a bear has attacked a camper at the Soda Butte Campground. In 2008 a man was attacked by a grizzly.
