Yellowstone Entrance SignHigh waters have washed out part of the road connecting Tower Junction and the Northeast Entrance just west of Soda Butte, forcing a temporary road closure and impacting travel in Yellowstone National Park.

Rushing waters at the confluence between the Lamar River and Soda Butte Creek have undercut a 30-foot section of the eastbound lane of the road, and crews are working to repair the road. It has been temporarily closed to all travel since late Friday evening. It is unknown how long it may take to reopen the road to car travel.

The road is open east of Tower Junction as far as Fisherman’s Pullout, approximately 8 miles from the junction. From the east, the road is open as far as the Lamar River Stock Trailhead, west of Pebble Creek Campground, approximately 13 miles from the Northeast Entrance, which remains open.
