In Yellowstone, kids who are between 5 and 12 can participate in the Junior Ranger Program, which is intended to show them all the wonders and beauty of Yellowstone, and how they can help preserve it. All that is needed to participate is the $3 needed to buy a 12-page activity book.
After completing the activity book and getting approval from any ranger in the park (preferably in any visitor center), the participants are given an official Junior Rangers Patch. For 5-7-year-olds, a wolf is awarded, while 8-12-year-olds get a bear patch. If you are participating in the winter, you will need to get a Junior Ranger Snowpack, available at the Mammoth and Old Faithful visitor centers. The packs contain items such as thermometers and hand lens, and snowshoes can be checked out at Mammoth visitor center. Winter participants earn a special snowflake patch if they complete the winter program.
